Weerwerk is a customized company within the social economy. The name Weerwerk contains one of the goals of the organization: to bring people who have a certain distance from the regular labor market back to work. Those who 'work again' have stood still professionally for a while, but got back on track thanks to a well-supervised process.
Weerwerk originated from De Sleutel and therefore has specific expertise in activating people with an addiction background. In addition, Weerwerk activates (former) convicts, the long-term ill, people with insufficient knowledge of Dutch, with psychological challenges... and helps employers to provide guidance to people with such a background.
Weerwerk offers industrial services, green services and renovation services in the Roeselare, Ghent and Antwerp regions. Weerwerk has a circular textile workshop in Roeselare. At the request of customers, the textile workshop team will work with old textiles that get a new life as a bicycle bag, sports bag, beach chair, pencil case, toilet bag... By doing so, Weerwerk and its customers prevent high-quality material from ending up in the incinerator, together they are building a circular economy and creating valuable jobs for people who are not yet able to enter the regular labor market. Given how each object is created, it is unique and handmade.
Around 275 FTEs currently work at Weerwerk, of which there are approximately 120 “tailor-made workers” and about eighty unpaid “participants” within specific trajectories. The other 70 employees work in the framework and ensure that customized workers and participants are properly supported in their jobs and lives.
